#whatisthisallabout

This painting was done right around the 2016 Presidential election. It started as a fairly simple idea of my ugly cat posed in front of a flag to represent how anybody can run for President today. While I was painting, it started to gain a lot of attention around the school, which fueled my idea to develop the concept. I was getting so many reactions to the painting; some people thought it was funny, some people found it offensive, and others were very confused. So I searched for more reactions, and I started to write them down. I would approach anyone that I could and show them the picture and ask for their first reaction to it. I then copied all of their reactions on to two boards, and only filled half of the reactions in with paint. The phrases that I painted seemed like the ones that had more importance, but really it was all at random. This painting is truly for the viewer to decide how they feel about it, and as an artist I didn't really have any intentions of how I hoped the audience would react.

Scroll down to see some process pictures. This was also my first ever painting to be vandalized, and it was vandalized twice!
